International Nurses Day has been celebrated since 1965. However, it wasn't until 1974 when 12th May was chosen to celebrate this day to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. Nightingale's lasting contribution has been her role in founding the modern nursing profession. On May 12th, the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world is celebrated.
